Tura is a subsidiary of In Specs, one of the world’s largest eyewear companies.

Title: Accessories Designer

Reports To: Director of Product Development

Salary: $100,000

Experience and Skills Required:

  • 5+ years of Eyewear (or comparable accessory) product design and development
  • Sourcing experience in China
  • Elevated taste level
  • Experience with better/premium level product
  • Experience developing a concept from conception, including the design of the product

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design and development of multiple collections including RX optical frames, sunglasses, readers, and private label optical collections
  • Design and develop products from concept through development, meeting the brand objectives set by the Licensor and the market needs
  • Primary sourcing contact with suppliers—all product development follow- up
  • Pricing of new models—margin management
  • Travel to Asia 1-2X per year (post-Covid)
  • Analyze sales results—design new products to maximize sales
  • Interface effectively w/ Marketing, to deliver on-message product for each brand
  • Data entry and maintenance for models to purchase
  • Develop Product Training documents as needed for key accounts and sales reps
  • Quality control on all new styles

  • Timely and efficient product development including vendor management

Required Skills:

The job is 60% Product Development, 40% design.

  • Product development experience in sunwear or eyewear or similar product category (ie. jewelry, watches, handbags)— minimum 5 years experience not including school internships
  • Ability to conceptualize new designs from scratch and provide clear and detailed design direction to the factory or junior designer
  • Extremely organized and experienced in tracking many projects throughout the product development process
  • Extremely detailed in product design, development, and communication skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes—preferably has been in Chinese factories
  • Strong technical knowledge when reviewing CAD drawings
  • Needs to write clearly in English and speak in a professional and articulate manner
  • Experience working with licenses and licensors
  • Critical thinking skills which are evidenced in good decision making, project ownership, and a global perspective
  • Solutions oriented attitude
  • Passionate about design and product—loves eyewear
  • Team player and highly collaborative
  • Hard working and committed—usually requires 50 hours of work per week
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior level employees
  • Ability to draw in Illustrator
  • Strong Microsoft office skills especially in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred skills:

  • Experience designing and developing optical frames for the high end market
  • Highly analytical—can read and interpret sales reports and translate the data into stronger selling new designs
  • Ability to execute a business plan regarding price points, classifications, and styling—will be required to manage the Sun market prep

The position is based at Tura US HQ: 10 W. 37th, New York, NY 10018, 7th floor (near 5th ave.) This is not a remote position.  The employee is expected to work in the office in order to effectively collaborate with the brand team.
