Apparel Designer
The role of Apparel Designer supports the Design of primarily apparel and secondarily headwear by developing artwork, tech packs, individual product designs, and executes design support functions in accordance with various go-to-market projects. Portfolio required with resume submission.
Responsibilities- Design apparel and headwear products from concept through sales prototypes
- Assist Creative Director and PD team in fit sessions and proto reviews
- Assist with building seasonal mood boards including color direction
- Assist PD team with fabric and trim development
- Assist with creating style numbers and line sheets
- Oversee lab dip approvals, strike offs, knit downs, sample fabric yardages
- Communicate detail and design changes and updates with internal team and external suppliers
- Understand and keep up to date on market trends and designs trend appropriate product
- Regularly analyze custom design request trends and leverage this information into product for seasonal product offerings
- Create prototypes sales samples and production ready work to be replicated appropriately
- Update tech packs and BOM’s for accuracy
- Understand and utilize multiple New Era project tracking and product creation (PLM) systems
- Meet or exceed timelines associated with TAC (Time Action Calendars)
- Work closely with internal partners to support special projects
- Keep all sensitive matters confidential
- Other duties as assigned
- Strong computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn and utilize new systems
- Ability to establish relationships and interact with various levels within the organization
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and efficiently prioritize workday to maximize productivity
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally
- Enthusiastic, pro-active, and positive person who adapts to change and with urgency and persistence
- Ability to effectively communicate apparel construction and stitch techniques
- Ability to review and comment on pattern changes and fit corrections
- The ability to be innovative and creative when handling difficult business challenges
- Experience in a Mac environment with proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the limitations to the embroidery and screen printing process
- Demonstrate a limited knowledge of professional sports leagues and teams
- Actively participate in design critiques
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs
Education and Experience
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of Product Design experience or equivalent combination or education and experience
- Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design, or Communications Arts; Relevant job experience in lieu of degree will be considered
- Previous experience in a graphic/product design environment preferred
- Previous experience in a soft goods embroidery/screen printing environment preferred
- Knowledge of sportswear or apparel industry
- Portfolio submission required
Travel Requirement
- 20% to 30%; domestic and/or global
