Our talented Program Merchandising Group within BDA develops, designs, and sources for 25+ Fortune 500 clients. From classic to stylish, this team is shaping the styles and looks our clients love for their brand. An effective Apparel Designer is experienced, results-oriented and views the business through the lens of the client. Primary responsibilities include designing a collection of product assortments in partnership with Design Manager, Tech Design, Merchandising and Global Sourcing, that achieves aesthetic, quality and cost requirements against product standards while monitoring adherence for development.

Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Fashion Design or related experience preferred
  • 5-8 years of previous design experience in an apparel company
  • Thorough understanding of production cycle timeline, garment construction, color accuracy and tech pack creation and management
  • Superior eye for color (Munsell color test online)
  • Mastery of Illustrator skills required
  • Strong organization, interpersonal skills, communication, and time management skills required
  • Experience in leading and mentoring Assistant and or Associate Designer
  • Research, interprete and present trends and curated assortment to clients and executives

  • Experience with PC/Mac software: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, PowerPoint and Smartsheet

  • Ability to lead and drive multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization/time management and problem solving skills.
  • Ensures fabric/silhouette pairings are appropriate and identify opportunity for innovation of construction standards to ensure consistency in experience and delivery of value to the customer.
  • Exemplary attention to detail, highly organized and able to multi-task.
  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with BDA employees, outside vendors and clients.
  • Effectively demonstrates ability to take direction, provide leadership, willingness to learn and shares knowledge to grow the Design team.
  • Able to adapt design ideas into product that serves our various clients.
  • Attend all fit reviews and partner with Technical Design team to ensure best fit and on-time delivery.


  • Partners with Design team members and key stakeholders to develop seasonal assortments of each season (color, styling, trim, packaging and raw material development)
  • Research fashion trends, recognize sales trends and find opportunities to apply to the business.
  • Responsible for approving key brand color lab dips, print strike-offs, yarn dyed handlooms, trims, & fabric in correspondence with Graphic Designer and Overseas Factories.
  • Creates and tracks status of style development by season and client for on-time delivery.
  • Strategic in design method to maximize style development to apply to multiple clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials and material development across knits, wovens and outerwear.
  • Proactive to resolve potential manufacturing and costing issues prior to development of style to ensure quality execution in bulk and on-time delivery.
  • Understands business drivers and performs to continually seek opportunities to positively affect custom design team and client.
  • Proven track record of cultivating strong relationships with key client and supplier stakeholers.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to distill, analyze and draw conclusions on sales data.
  • Checks factory submits for adherence to color, fabric, production art, trims and construction.
  • Approves preproduction samples in partnership with Merchandiser
  • Maintains tech pack accuracy; recognizes and acts on inconsistencies across multiple programs
  • Support, inspire, energize and provides Design leadership within the Design team and cross functional counterparts to support and develop growth in the role.
