Job Description

The Assistant Apparel Technical Designer supports the apparel product team and is responsible for preparing garments for live model fittings, evaluating garments for accurate measurements and construction, assisting in creating technical packages and collaborating with the Technical Designer and Product Developers on executing comments to vendors. Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to be flexible. The role is a great learning position that requires someone with initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm to learn. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for measuring and evaluating construction on samples through written documentation, visual images, and technical sketches as needed to communicate detailed sample corrections with the assistance of the Technical Designer.
  • Schedules fit sessions on live models. Participates in fit sessions, taking notes, and taking photos for other team members.
  • Assist with documenting garment measurements, tolerances, grade rules, construction details, and additional technical requirements using KUIU’s defined format for tech pack creation.
  • Maintains sample library, interlining library, and manages model database.
  • Support product wear testing throughout development
  • Articulates brand standards to all parties, agents, and manufacturers
  • Leverages technical knowledge and leadership support to brainstorm, troubleshoot and resolve issues that require an innovative approach
  • Works closely and collaborates with the technical design, product development, and design teams to ensure processes are meeting internal documentation standards.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • Fashion Design Degree from an accredited University, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is preferred
  • Competent with Microsoft Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of Flat Patterning and the ability to accurately execute 3-D garment fit issues into 2-D pattern correction.
  • OptiTex 2D, Gerber/Accumark, or Lectra pattern software experience a plus.
  • Needs to work well independently, possess keen attention to detail, have excellent follow through skills and be pro-active.
  • Should be quick, collaborative and creative. Need to be able to thrive in a deadline driven environment.
  • Have ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects at once and be deadline oriented.
  • Must have strong communication skills (verbal and written) and work well within a team environmen
