We are seeking experienced Assistant Buyer with experience in Jewelry to join our growing team! The Assistant Buyer is responsible for developing and executing merchandising strategies to deliver sales, gross profit, and inventory / turnover targets through focused product assortments, marketing and pricing strategies. This position ensures merchandise is purchased to maximize results while enhancing the overall department and company strategy. This role requires a passion for jewelry and an entrepreneurial spirit.

What You'll Do

  • Have a finger on the pulse of the market. Leverage customer needs, internal reporting, industry trends and competitive information to develop and execute merchandise strategy. Must have a solid understanding of competitive landscape and firm grasp on opportunity areas.
  • Own product selection, negotiating the best purchase terms to maximize profit upfront. Focus assortments to offer consumer best product with a strong price value relationship to ensure optimal productivity by style.
  • Partner with design to build collections based on line plan and then edit the collection to meet sales needs.
  • Create reporting that serves the internal organization in order to share learnings from market across various teams.
  • Must use a “data first” approach to analyze and react to business performance at the top line, category and style level.
  • Communicate openly with management on an ongoing basis about the perceived strengths and weakness of the product assortment and highlight areas of concern in real time.
  • Define, source, curate and deliver compelling merchandise assortments that are relevant to our brand and customer demographics. Create and maintain assortment plans that balance freshness and trend-right looks with core basics and classics.
  • Research the market regularly to understand the competitive landscape and brand opportunities by category.
  • Manage constant flow of new item samples and vendor proposals while overseeing item set up, pricing and launch specifics.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships that deliver on joint business plans and goals. Negotiate costs on new items and volume purchases and collaborate with factories on design and exclusive product.
  • Perform sales analyses to determine key item base, breadth of selection and effective product allocation.
  • Oversee inventory forecasting and reordering.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills including high degree of aptitude with Excel.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Jewelry Buying: 4 years (Preferred)
  • Previous senior role in merchandising/buying is a must
  • Knowledge of jewelry market landscape
  • Product development and design experience is preferred
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Proven experience building a profitable business in specific categories.
  • Ability to build / maintain strong vendor partnerships
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills including high degree of aptitude with Excel.
  • Willingness to travel for supplier visits, tradeshows
