The Assistant Buyer supports the Senior Buyer(s) and EVP. Responsible for merchandising systems driving the optimization of profit for the respective division. Works cross functionally to create and streamline processes. Manages and builds relationships with approximately 10+ vendors across divisions to oversee purchase orders, allocations, vendor shipments and sample management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting
  • Seasonal product board preparation and maintenance
  • Assists Buyer in the selection of merchandise using analytical based recommendations to forecast and plan for projected inventory needs based on historical data
  • Manage purchase orders from new sku set-up to initial allocation through end of life cycle of merchandise, including merchandise consolidation or markdown of goods
  • Communication with warehouse with regards vendor shipments, allocations, to any logistics issues or exceptions
  • Manage weekly inventory exports to suggest re-orders, and weekly replenishment
  • Attends and participates in vendor meetings
  • Maintains accurate information in internal databases including the weekly updating of min/max records, maintaining markdown records, cleaning purchase order balances
  • Maintains and organizes samples
  • Complete special assignments as assigned by Buyer or EVP

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a retail environment preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Must have strong data entry skills, be computer literate & be able to learn new systems quickly
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business reports
  • Detail oriented, very organized and able to multi-task within an ever-changing, fast paced environment
  • Able to work with a sense of urgency and meet deadlines while remaining flexible
  • Ability to work and thrive within a team environment. Communicate in a clear and friendly manner both internally and externally
  • Strong problem-solving skills, partnered with motivation, enthusiasm and inquisitiveness
