Assistant Designer
Job Responsibilities
DEVELOPMENT
-Conduct extensive market research of trends, colors, silhouettes, trims, and fabrics each season through in person shopping and online research
-Assist with print research and selection for all seasons, regularly checking and pulling from print vendor sites
-Attend in-person textile and print shows in NYC to help source fabrics and prints for upcoming seasons
-Document and track all new header requests from fabric vendors, following up after trade shows and fabric appointments
-Assist designer with collection development, creating moodboards and preparing hand sketches for each fabric group each season, compiling and presenting materials to greater team for review
-Confirm s/y content with factories at start of season and communicate content and COO with sales team as needed—updating info in the shared doc for each delivery
-Photoshop sketches and create boms and line sheets for each season, updating as necessary throughout development
-Create and update development powerpoint with proto and SMS images each season
-Assist on set with all photoshoots (6 annually)
-Prepare pdfs with CADs, alternate colorways and prints for special development projects and recuts
PRODUCTION
-Attend all production fittings (via Zoom), taking all fit notes, revising specs accordingly, and relaying all information back to factories
-Create and send production BOMs to factories with SMS fit notes and update prod BOMs as necessary reflecting changes made during PP fittings
-Manage all sample shipments, creating labels and setting package pickups, and relaying packing lists and tracking info to factories
-Update production sample request shared doc after SMS fitting
Requirements
-0-1 years of experience in fashion design
-Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design
-NYC based--Hybrid/Flexible work environment
-Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
-Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines at once
-Strong communication skills—verbal and written, and able to clearly communicate with overseas vendors
-Interest in sustainability and desire to research, source, and help implement more sustainable materials and practices is a plus
