Assistant Designer
Overview:
Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks an Assistant Designer to join the Design Team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters.
This individual with help to design, develop & select materials, colors & patterns, from initial concept through to finish product for Marc Jacobs Mainline & Heaven by Marc Jacobs RTW.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Head of Design - Marc Jacobs RTW, through all stages of the design process in executing design concepts in line with the design calendar
In collaboration with Concept team; receive direction, inspiration from Creative Director to prepare for seasonal kick off
Research and analyze current trends - understanding competitors and market including fabrics, techniques, and trends
Research materials & components
Assist in assembling artwork and presentation boards for design meetings/presentations
Ensure design boards, design rooms, color boards, linesheets are maintained and updated for all collections/capsules
Keep track of color standards and help prepare lab dip requests accordingly
Sketch visions and ideas for product line clearly & accurately
Collaborate with PD team and senior members of the Team on the creation of Tech Packs
Create CADs as directed
Actively participate in fittings, taking clear notes to relay to cross functional team members
Support the Creative team during photoshoots/show
Support all aspects of design including material direction, sketching, color palette, tech packs, prints
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Art of Fashion (Design, Merchandising, etc)
2+ years of design experience
Excellent hand illustration & flat sketching skills
Ability to identify emerging trends
Strategically minded, problem solving, and collaborative
Excellent taste level and brand awareness
Strong understanding of garment construction, materials, and production
Written and verbal communication skills
Job descriptionSALARY & BENEFITS/WHAT WE OFFER:The compensation for this position ranges from $50,000-$55,000 (annually). The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidate's relevant skills and experience.
