JOB DESCRIPITON: ASSISTANT DESIGNER – LUGGAGE, BAGS, AND ACCESSORIES

Part of Filson’s Design Department, responsible for the stewardship & seasonal development of brand right business-driving product that serves the needs of the Filson consumer.

Position Overview

The role of the Assistant Designer is to support, contribute to, and own certain design-related tasks and responsibilities in order to assist the greater Design Team with seasonal deadlines and deliverables. The Assistant Designer should be proactive in prioritizing and managing their workload throughout the course of any given season, keeping abreast of key calendar dates, upcoming projects, and any additional work they may be tasked with. Strong communication and organizational skills are key to the role and the Assistant Designer should maintain close departmental & cross functional partnerships to help support all outputs of the design function.

Primary Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To)

  • Contribute to and assist with designing a brand right, business driving product line.
  • Reads, researches, follows and keeps up with industry and brand appropriate websites, social media channels, periodicals, and any other relevant sources of inspiration relating to the design function at Filson.
  • Tracks design schedule to ensure timely completion of deliverables within predetermined product development calendar.
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of visual presentation boards and design tools.
  • Assists with and supports seasonal color development, lab dip requests, and color CAD updates.
  • Supports senior team members with tech pack & BOM building; owns input and organization of tech packs in PLM.
  • Supports with communication and acts as liaison between cross functional partners (PD/TD/Merch) in absence of senior design team members.
  • Responsible for taking and distributing notes during and after important milestone meetings.
  • Responsible for general organization and housekeeping tasks within the Design Department.

Experience

1-3 years’ experience in similar soft goods design related role.

Knowledge of illustrator, tech pack building and PLM are essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit and work at desk and operate a computer for several hours at a time.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk
  • The employee is occasionally required to move or lift up to 10 pounds
  • Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the hearing voices through telephone handsets or headsets and through general face to face conversation
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read information on a computer screen or on a printed page
