The Assistant Technical Designer will aid the Technical Design Lead in developing and creating high quality, well-fitting apparel. The Assistant Technical Designer has responsibility to interpret concepts into a technical package with complete information regarding fitting, sizing, grading, garment specifications and construction. This includes communicating the technical package to the vendors ensuring that all content is correct and updated throughout the product development lifecycle. They must ensure that the product performs in fit, style and quality standards, according to the Lilly Pulitzer® Brand.

The Assistant Technical Designer has the overall responsibility for the completion of technical packages from concept to production. They are accountable for the construction and fit aspects of samples used for development. The Assistant Technical Designer will assist in leading fit sessions and fit garments with the Technical Design lead as well as provide fit recommendations and solutions to issues. Performance in this position is measured by achieving total company net sales targets, lowering the return rate in the e-commerce full price business, along with contributing to the department goals.

As part of the overall duties, there are five major areas of responsibility discussed below:

Understand the Lilly Pulitzer customer, lifestyle, positioning in the marketplace and product strategy.

  • Lilly Pulitzer® is a lifestyle, branded marketing company in the apparel, accessories and footwear business serving the needs of the affluent customer at ease. The company’s brand positioning is Lilly’s Resort Chic and has four distinct key competitive advantages:
  • Prints – the Lilly Pulitzer® brand has a distinct, unique & iconic print style.
  • Authentic resort – the brand has an authentic and inherent understanding of the resort lifestyle.
  • Optimism – the brand has an optimistic outlook; it is colorful and happy.
  • Multi-generational – the brand is multi generational providing product to customers from their childhood through the many stages of their adult life.
  • Know and appreciate the multi-generational Lilly Pulitzer customer. This affects the fit and styling of Lilly Pulitzer® products.
  • Spend sufficient time reviewing merchandise through e-commerce and retail channels to understand the customers feedback regarding fit and construction.

Work closely with Technical Design and Fashion Design to understand the desired styling and fit intent of each silhouette and develop tech packs that achieve this intent.

  • Meticulous with details and driven by the technical aspect of the design process.
  • Work closely with Technical Design lead and Fashion Design to support the development of a library of established fit blocks.
  • Work with Technical Design lead and Fashion Design to determine if the new silhouette can be based upon an existing style or block pattern, before starting a new tech pack.
  • Work closely with Technical Design lead on the accuracy of measuring samples and 100% pre-fitting all samples prior to fittings.
  • Support the fitting of styles for all development stages from Quick Spec through Top of Production samples. This includes fitting on a full or jump size range as a test of the validity of the grade rules.
  • Perform a support function in fit sessions. Provide weekly list for which styles will be fit and indicate fit stage. Include this information in meeting request that is communicated with sufficient notice that time and resources will be used efficiently.
  • Conduct fit sessions as appropriate with guidance from Technical Design lead.

Operate within calendar.

  • Meet all assigned dates in the Lilly Pulitzer® Product Development Calendar.

Collaborate closely with Colleagues to make sure product performs in fit, style, and quality standards, according to the Lilly Pulitzer® Brand

  • Partners with vendors and Technical Design lead to review and resolve product issues throughout all development and production stages.
  • The Assistant Technical Designer should have the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, including other Technical Designers as well as counterparts in, Production, Fabric/Trim and Quality Assurance, on ensuring production goods meet all fit, construction and quality standards.

  • The Assistant Technical Designer has responsibility to collaborate effectively with the Technical Design Team and other cross-functional partners. These include primarily Fashion Design, Product Development, Production, Fabric /Trim and Quality Assurance.
  • Responsible for clearly communicating all necessary information to a wide variety of departments and vendors in order to produce high-quality garments for production and to our customer.
  • The Assistant Technical Designer takes ownership of errors and models how to professionally recover from mistakes. Proactive about finding solutions to errors or problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS INCLUDE:

  • The Assistant Technical Designer will have skills in apparel technical design, including but not limited to:
  • Translating the intent of Fashion Design into technical design specification packages (tech packs)
  • Conducting fittings with guidance
  • Garment construction
  • Pattern making and size grade rules
  • Taking notes during fittings and other meetings.
  • Measuring garments with accuracy.
  • Technical Flat sketching
  • Partners with vendors and Technical Design lead to review and resolve product issues throughout all development and production stages.
  • Evaluate samples to ensure they meet construction, grading, tolerance, and safety standards.
  • Must have proficiency and comfort in the use of technology to support Technical Design. This includes:
  • The Centric® PLM System. Training will be provided.
  • The Pattern Design System Module of Accumark®. Training will be provided.
  • The Adobe Suite of software including Illustrator and Acrobat.
  • Basic computer skills, such as Outlook®, Word®, and Excel® in a Microsoft Windows®
  • The ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, as well as adjust to changing priorities and process improvements.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Accountable for adhering to all processes, procedures, and standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A four-year college degree is required. This must be in Fashion Design, or a closely related subject.
  • At least 1-2 Years experience in Technical Design or a closely related field.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • This position is classified as full-time salaried; it is exempt and is not eligible for overtime. This position is eligible for standard company fringe benefits.
  • This position may require Domestic and International travel.
  • Given the seasonality of the business, this position may require flexible, additional working hours during peak periods.
  • This position is reviewed annually.
