Overview:

Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks a Associate Technical Designer, Cut and Sew to join the Technical Design RTW team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters. As a member of this team, you will be conducting fit sessions, communicating revisions to vendors and working cross-functionally to ensure accuracy of tech packs from development through production. The Associate Technical Designer will report to the Technical Design Director and help maintain the flow of information between factories and internal departments. This ideal candidate is creative, passionate, organized, problem solver, a clear communicator and must be able to perform technical designer related tasks. Marc Jacobs International is part of the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) fashion division and operates in the wholesale and direct to consumer retail markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with design team to set up initial development tech packs from design sketch to have detailed construction, poms, garment specs under supervision of the Technical Design Manager or Director of technical design

Work with print designer to make sure all print placement are accurate to garment and fabric width/length

Proactively track overseas packages and estimate fit dates based on expected package arrival for production fit samples.

Prepare garments, patterns and paperwork for fitting from proto to TOPs: evaluate them against previous comments, check measurements and identify fabric and trims. Be familiar with history of the garments

Attend and sometimes lead fittings with director of TD, design and/or production team and be able to evaluate samples for construction, workmanship, fit and quality concerns and recommend solutions to solve

Be able to provide solutions via pattern corrections or sketches for fit corrections, workmanship and construction

Collaborate with patternmakers, Design/PD and Production teams to communicate workmanship/fit/spec and construction requirements to international vendors in a timely manner via email, audio, or video calls

Maintain fit and grade standards and adjust tech packs with fit comments/specs for all stages from proto to TOP in a timely manner

Ensures content of all final tech packs are accurate for measurements and grades and ready for bulk with Director of technical design's approval

QUALIFICATIONS:

3-5 years of experience in technical design in apparel industry with knowledge of fitting and garment construction

Proficiency of pattern making and understand grading, knowledge of Clo3D is a plus

Knowledge of apparel development process from inception through production

Knowledge of trim and fabrics, especially Jersey fabrics for cut and sew

Ability to lead fitting and have eye to identify fit issues and recommend solutions while mindful of bulk production and costing.

Able to effectively communicate with international vendors and cross functional teams on a regular basis

Ability to multitask and collaborate with design and production team in a fast-paced team environment

Proficiency in Microsoft office, Illustrator, Excel, experience of Centric PLM is a plus

Self-motivated and takes initiative to complete projects on timely manner and with precision

Highly detail-oriented, flexible and able to prioritize and multitask

Excellent organizational and communication skill

Experience of working with sample room, patternmakers and sewers is a plus

The compensation for this position ranges from $70,000-$75,000 (annually). The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidate's relevant skills and experience.
