As we continue to deliver strong commercial results across our business, we are looking for an experienced Buyer, with Product Development experience to drive innovation and product selection within Modern Classic, Womenswear.

Your role will focus on developing on trend product, alongside building strong relationships with new and existing suppliers to drive commercial results for a buying perspective. The Buyer will also play a key role in providing coaching and mentoring to your team. We are looking for someone with experience in a Buying and/or Product Developer role with an appreciation of Womenswear who is both creative and analytical as we focus on David Jones Modern Classic.

Based in Melbourne with a hybrid mix of time in the office and from home, this role will suit an experienced Product Developer or Buyer who is looking to make a real impact in the evolution of our Womenswear category.

Job description

What does the role involve?

  • Select merchandise assortments by store grid that satisfy our value proposition, strategy, and customer expectation
  • Product Development experience and creativity with the ability to partner with suppliers
  • Implement and manage agreed price curves and brand maps by store grid
  • Drive performance across your team to achieve sales, GP dollars, GMROI and stock turn targets each season
  • Create Product Assortment to drive commercial results
  • Achieve margin within buying and manage purchases within agreed OTB limits
  • Manage markdowns, promotions and achieve aged inventory standards within policy guidelines
  • Build, manage and maintain relationships with a range of with Australian and international suppliers; including on-boarding new vendors, establishing TOB and price negotiation
  • Coach and manage your direct reports and their teams to drive engagement, healthy succession and maximum individual productivity
What are we looking for?

  • Demonstrated experience working in a Buying or Product Development role within apparel or similar categories
  • A strong understanding of Australian retail and international buying
  • Commercial acumen and confidence working with senior stakeholders
  • Highly analytical, excellent communication skills and the ability to lead discussions
  • Demonstrated ability working in fast paced environments and balancing competing priorities
  • A dynamic and motivating leader with strong people management skills
