Designer
One of our major Bridal/Special Occasion Designers is currently Seeking a Designer to report directly to the Design Director.
MUST HAVE BRIDAL OR SPECIAL OCCASION DRESS EXPERIENCE
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creative Development
Contribute tears/concepts for each collection
i. Make sure all concepts have multiple tears/references
ii. Build in time for concept experimentation to bring fresh ideas to the table
iii. Make sure ideas are current/ on point and right for each division
Pre plan fabric development assortment for each division
i. Test fabrics – through draping & mock ups
ii. Inspiration/tears- that support & complement the fabric assortment for the season
iii. Manipulations – explore hand & drape of fabric with Manipulations to come up with fresh concepts
Drapes & mock up exploration
Explore tears/fabrications and techniques through draping & sewing
Mock ups will be reviewed with team and often tried on Jenny
i. Document & make adjustments according to feedback
Sketching
Contribute preliminary and final sketches for assigned divisions
Update all sketches as needed during development
Exploring concepts through various forms of sketching & open creative process
Presentation
Make sure all presentation materials are flawless
Put together presentation booklets for vendors/special accounts
Present concepts & sketches for each division
Ensure all presentation boards are accurate, up-to-date and organized
Create/clear all boards needed for development process:
i. By Season & Division: Initial Sketch Board – review with Liza & Then Jenny (google slides)
ii. By Season & Division: Team Review Board – Voting Board
iii. By Season & Division: Pre-Style Out Board- shared with company (InDesign & PowerPoint)
iv. By Season & Division: Style Out Board - shared with company- updated version of pre-style out board (InDesign & PowerPoint)
Create Line sheets
By Season (file) & Division (tab)
i. Assign Style numbers once styles are confirmed
- Create style folder on shared drive
- Create design handoff folder
ii. Update sketch/photo for all styles and make sure they are accurate
iii. Maintain accurate style notes & details
Meeting Preparation
Design Meetings
i. Ensure all materials are prepared in line with the meeting objectives
ii. Take notes at each meeting
iii. Ensure timeline is being followed
iv. Send out meeting notes within 24 hr of meeting
Assist in preparing for seasonal style out meetings
Fittings
Attend all fittings based for the product you are overseeing
Provide design feedback on fit/drape and intent of design
Provide drawn or photoshoped solutions to communicate the desired look
Update sketches, line sheets & PLM with relevant updates that are generated from fittings.
Style Hand Offs
Set up all new styles in NGC
i. Create general tab
ii. Set up initial BOM (working with fabric team to enter new components/colors)
iii. Upload sketch, design notes, inspiration images, and reference body images to style/DAM
- Prepare design style notes as needed for sketch hand offs
- Prepare diagrams & supporting imagery for Sketch hand off
Fabric Development- in alignment with fabric R&D
Bring new ideas, pictures, tests to each collection
Create fabric development/trials for beading, embroidery and fabric manipulation
Pre-requesting tests & mock ups for all divisions working
Communicate with international factories to track pending developments and maintain strategic deadlines
NGC
Responsible for all initial style and BOM uploads
Maintain accurate and updated development status
Ensure all applicable market colors are assigned to each style
Link look book images to all development styles after adopted
Line Sheet
Create and maintain running line sheets by division
Ensure most up-to-date line sheet is ready for all meetings including Monday TB
Send line sheet to sales for naming/pricing each season
Customization Chart
Maintain season customization chart by division
Ensure accurate information in maintained across all platforms/teams
Send out seasonally to Production and Sales Teams
Embroidery/Beading Design
Research embroidery/beading designs
Create new and/or original artwork based on design direction
Prepare vendor diagrams/tech pack for new artwork/layouts
Maintain timeline for development
Ensure artwork meets tech requirements and is in line with style target cost
Planning
Work to maintain & achieve companies T&A calendar
Take big picture outlines and create individual deadlines
Manage deadlines for sketching/handoffs
