We are looking for a Director of Fashion Design to combine their fashion design experience, problem-solving abilities, team leadership, relationship building, management skills, critical thinking, and creativity to help lead the future of Venus Fashion brand design. The Director of Fashion Design will be responsible for providing direction and vision for the design team. They will drive efficiency influencing the total design organization while managing cost/value requirements. The Design Director will be responsible for developing compelling core product lines, identifying opportunities, and building out curated assortments. They will be directing all aspects of design, development selection, and approval of materials, silhouettes, colors, and prints for the season.


  • Responsible for brand continuity, capturing market trends, and ensuring alignment to Venus Fashion's brand vision.
  • Be an entrepreneurial and innovative thinker who embraces change and takes on new challenges.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences at varying levels of the organization.
  • Creates design cards for hand-off to factory partners and leads best practices in this area.
  • Lead product aesthetic, seasonal concept direction, and product design strategy.
  • Partners with merchant teams to ensure the viability of products and product opportunity that fills the need within the assortment.
  • Has a product vision for the company and constantly updates the senior management team as to what the end goal looks like and the progress that has been made.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings, kick-off calls, and brainstorms, and share best practices with team members and broader organizations.
  • Oversees a variety of multiple design projects, running simultaneously with varying levels of complexity.
  • Work to resolve potential manufacturing and costing issues prior to the development of product concepts to ensure quality execution in bulk.
  • Accountable for process improvement, growing business, and seeking opportunities to positively affect the Design organization and company.
  • Deliver relevant information with confidence and builds a strong network of relationships working between cross-functional teams.
  • Develops a long-range plan of product solutions that evolve seasonal assortment.
  • Researches and develops brand-appropriate trends and product ideas.
  • Travel for inspiration and trade shows.
  • Must have a solid understanding and focus on digital/catalog business.
  • Present sketches and proto samples at appropriate check-ins and meetings.
  • Create and update an accurate pre-production BOM for all products.
  • Pitches colors for prints to ensure a cohesive presentation and palette.
  • Ensure all milestones are achieved and successful. Aligns on key business strategies, initiatives, and actions.


  • 8+ years of product design/development experience required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of design/development. management experience.
  • You have an industry-proven track record and are comfortable executing the development process from end to end – all while managing cost/value requirements.
  • You are a problem solver, with exceptional planning skills, and drive efficiency influencing the total design organization.
  • Well-crafted communication and organizational skills; strong detail orientation, project management, and prioritization skills.
  • Experience communicating with senior management and cross-functional leaders with a proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to translate the big picture into clear, compelling goals and expected outcomes.

Produces presentation material that enhances the ability of an audience to understand and act upon the information.

  • Strong sense of style/outfitting color with a considered aesthetic and an eye toward detail.
  • Proficiency in programs needed for the design to include but not be limited to 3D programs (CLO, Kashian), PowerPoint, Excel, Digi, and Qlik. Proficiency required in Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Able to develop certain leaders to rise in an organization by building a deep bench.
  • Strong ability to maximize quality and profit by developing key relationships and fostering a collaborative approach when dealing with vendors and suppliers.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment that revolves around multiple product development calendars.
  • Self-leadership skills with a passion to mentor and coach junior designers.
  • An organizational leader and champions brand values on a daily basis.


  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in fashion design, product design, or graphic design with 8 years of relevant experience OR,
  • Associate Degree in Fashion Design or Fashion Merchandising with 12 years of relevant experience.
