Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position manages various construction related Vendors and store design related Consultants to complete all assigned projects associated with new Ross Dress for Less and dd's DISCOUNTS stores. The position is responsible for the oversight and production of projects, reporting progress and any training or development of the Vendors and Consultants required for job performance. This is a working position that requires supervisory and managerial duties as well as active project involvement to insure timely and satisfactory completion of all assigned projects. The position report to the GVP, Store Design and will assist with Store Design and Construction goals as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Supply chain and inventory management with Vendors; working with all Vendors on lead times for all materials used and streamlining process to meet schedules and opening dates.

- Design, supervise and prepare both individually and through others site-specific store plans and elevations that meet the prototypical standards while addressing site-specific conditions.

- Plan, manage, schedule, supervise, mentor, review and approve the progress of the assigned Vendors and other professionals involved in producing store designs and providing components for construction of site-specific stores to achieve satisfactory, thorough and timely completion of all assigned projects.

- Seek, identify and qualify new vendors as required to ensure ROSS required supply chain remains uninterrupted.

- Be a knowledgeable and effective advocate for the Prototype and site-specific store requirements. Issue Prototype Addendum Updates as required.

- Liaison for construction and signage related matters with Real Estate, Construction, Store Design, Ops, LP, Store Planning Managers and others.

- Maintain, through training, instruction and example, high standards of technical competence and timely, accurate performance of Vendors.

- Manage all MSAs, annual sign pricing.

- Prepare reporting for, participate in and follow up on all action items from quarterly Sign Meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Possess a college degree in store design, architecture, construction or a related discipline plus seven to ten years of related work experience, or, without a degree, ten years of related experience. Related work experience is to include at least three years in the design of big-box retail and experience with commercial signage (fabrication and installation).

- Possess a professional working understanding of the theory and practice of retail store design, retail architecture, signage and graphic design.

- Possess a working understanding of the laws, ordinances, codes and regulations applicable to retail occupancies and construction including the accessibility code (ADA).

- Possess the ability to exercise sound professional judgment and to develop practical solutions to signage and supply chain matters.

- Possess a fundamental understanding of critical-path-method project management and the ability to apply it to projects in a practical manner, accomplishing desirable and timely results.

- Possess good written, verbal and graphic communication skills together with the ability to both explain design requirements and to effectively lead individuals to consensus decisions in support of company design objectives.

- Possess a working proficiency in the use of the current AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop computer design programs.

- Possess comprehensive knowledge of the Prototype store designs.

- Possess the ability to plan, organize and direct the work of other professionals.

- Previous personnel management experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.

Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.

Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.

Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.

This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
