AG is currently seeking a Designer who will oversee Men’s Tops collection each year as well as participate in competitive shopping and market research. The Sr. Designer will work closely with cross-functional partners in Tech Design, Merchandising and Production on fit and costing ensuring the integrity of the product is maintained through the entire design/production process. This position currently has one direct report and you would be expected to lead, mentor & build a strong team.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the design and all related functions of seasonal line development for Men’s tops (woven’s & knits).
- Own the whole design process from beginning to end--- concept through developmental (tech packs and fittings).
- Research market to determine trends in color, theme, fabric, trim and style. Work closely with upper management to development seasonal inspiration boards for color, style, art, theme and trim.
- Develop original textile designs including prints, yarn-dye plaids and stripes, screen prints, and embroideries.
- Work on a daily basis directing Textile and Graphic Artists.
- Create initial designs/styles/spec sheets.
- Work with Technical Designers to ensure proper fit and end look.
- Designate specific art placement of screen prints, embroideries, and appliqués for Pattern Design and Graphic Artists.
- Review art strike-offs with upper management for aesthetic approval.
- Present concepts to upper management and customers.
- During seasonal development, review color throughout lab dip process to ensure desired color is achieved.
- Must have the ability to read color and make technical color and design comments.
- Complete all tasks according to corporate calendar. Must fully understand definition of each line item.
- Accuracy and follow through in all aspects of the job are essential.
Skills and Requirements:
- BA Degree from Art and Design college, major in Apparel Design.
- 5-7 years contemporary men’s wear design experience required.
- Must have a top notch taste level and a steady eye on the American retail market.
- Excellent understanding of trends and how they relate to the brand.
- Knowledge of wovens and knits.
- Excellent portfolio with a strong eye for color /prints and trim details.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Private label design and manufacturing experience a plus.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to shoulder feedback and communicate directly.
