A Merchandise Planner, in partnership with the merchant, is responsible for developing and translating department pre-season category strategies into executable in-season merchandise plans. Provides financial strategies for sales, inventory, markdowns, and margin at a style or ‘group’ level plan. Clear execution and communication of the strategies will ensure collaboration between the merchandise plans and store allocations to maximize sales, profit, and store presentation.

  • Develops key item strategy plans that aligns with the departmental top side goals.
  • Develop, in collaboration with the merchant, pre-season category plans that aids in the development of the SVL and provides style and choice count targets by category to merchandising and design
  • Provide pre-season inventory recommendations that support department strategies
  • Provides analytical support in the development of the departmental SVL.
  • Elevate select style planning into ‘group’ planning
  • Plan and manage key item weekly flow, in partnership with manufacturing, to achieve departmental turn targets and air/ocean objectives
  • i. Approval of all air orders
  • ii. Approvals in compliance with Sarbanes and Oxley
  • Communicate weekly with allocation and approve the transformation of merchandise strategies into allocation plans.
  • Analyze and reforecast financial strategies using current trend and actual performance on a monthly basis. (MPC)
  • Challenge the merchandise plans to achieve the inventory targets set for the quarterly sale events.
  • Utilize Data warehouse to produce in-season sales reporting.

Essential Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 7-10 years of merchandise / planning experience
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Retail math expertise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
