SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Merchandise Planner will partner with the assigned buying team(s) to develop and execute merchandise assortments and inventory management strategies that achieve sales, profit, and turnover performance objectives. Work with buying team(s) to solve current problems, identify new problems and opportunities and ultimately help provide solutions that achieve the area’s goals. Develop and monitor data quality metrics and ensure reporting needs are met. The end goal is to provide financial insights that help the decision-making process with profitability always a driver.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates as the analytical lead for assigned buying area(s). Partners with VP of Merchandise Planning & Business/Customer Analytics to drive profitable merchandise decisions through demand driven assortment and key style planning.
  • Lead annual and seasonal Merchandise Plans to deliver financial targets and profitable growth.
  • Lead and manage the buying team(s) in the development, analysis and revision of sales, inventory, markdowns and profit.
  • Perform analysis of business by category, department, vendor, style, and sku. Make meaningful recommendations based upon analysis
  • Lead buying team(s) on recommendations for OTB adjustments based upon sales trend and overall business trend
  • Collaborate with buying team(s) on analysis and actions that result in profitable sales and margin growth
  • Ensure that goals are drilled down to monthly, weekly, and daily plans

EXPERTISE IN THE FOLLOWING:

  • Experience in high volume, multiple category and large SKU count environment
  • Managing large scale replenishment business
  • Expert proficiency in Excel (including Pivot tables)
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with proven ability to achieve buy-in at the cross functional team level
  • Ability to thrive in a highly quantitative, fast paced environment with changing business needs
  • Product assortment analysis, across multiple categories with multiple vendors

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree required
  • Buying experience is a plus
  • Experience in intimate apparel, swimwear, and/or men’s furnishings is a plus
  • Experience with replenishment system a plus
  • Excellent retail math, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines

OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Our offices are located in Edison, NJ. A car is required to reach our offices
  • Ability to travel to New York City frequently
