We are currently seeking Merchandiser: The Merchant role is the next evolution of the Associate Merchant position, taking more strategic planning and financial ownership for the brand on as responsibilities. What is expected of this role is more than that of an Associate Merchant in terms of being a team player, some divisional leadership when needed and more evolved business reporting skills.

Strategic Brand Planning

*Able to forward think, begin to lead the brand and make strategic merchandising decisions

*Owns business goals for specified brand, including tying those goals to:

1. Product and Line Plans for the season

2. SKU counts

3. AUR goals by class and design story

4. Protecting major brand stories by classification and business


5. Introduction of financial plans, including gross margin

*Can clearly update, recap and callout to manager any issues involving these – or any other - brand issues until product has successfully hit the selling floor, including issues involved with securing requested STT date - ASAP while offering recommendations and solutions

*Able to manage timeline of product development and production based on financial STT need, including calling out red flags and managing

a. Late sample dates

b. Design change requests

c. PD issues

d. GM issues

e. Sales requests at Market


*Top line, big picture reporting of brand as detailed in Associate Merchant role

Financial Planning

*Confirmation of units and dates with production

* Maintain and habitually review production placement charts and take action with appropriate team if necessary

* Begin to understand and step into role of managing replenishment financial and WOS responsibilities for their brand in conjunction with Planning Manager

* Begin to understand management of excess inventory and closeouts in conjunction with Planning Manager

Market responsibilities

* Communication to sales and external buying teams regarding strategy behind the line, including

a. Line presentation at Sales Meeting, Market, and inter-Market meetings

b. Ability to take accurate notes and update Manager and other teams on Market conversations and decisions

*Preparing pre-Market trackers and order forms

*Preparing post-Market buys and submitting to Production, with prior Manager approval

*Responsible for coordinating meeting with PR to pass on key design ideas and samples for editorial placement


*Responsible for all brand communication, including

a. Agenda, recapping and leading of bi-weekly team meetings

b. Recapping and leading of Market recap meetings immediately

following conclusion of Market week

*Internal support to production, PD, design, sales as well as partnering with other areas as needed

*Be able to communicate clearly and concisely utilizing limited emails


* Maintain role as brand expert and leader in all aspects, including but not limited to flow, deliveries, SKU retails, AUR, current selling status, etc.

*Ability to interact with all levels of senior management independently, including designer/licensee counterparts where applicable

*Begin to mentor Associate Merchants in more complex merchandising roles and responsibilities


*Very strong understanding of business match skills, and ability to use these skills daily to manage the business

*Efficient, quick recapping of high level ideas (sales, gross margin, buyer comments) to management

*Written skills (ie, Strategic Overviews for Market, topline written recaps to upper management)

*Needs to be able to prioritize, multitask, respond to appropriate responsibilities quickly and manage overall time accordingly


* Maintain and build upon corporate presentation skills to both large and small groups at any level of the business

*In conjunction with this, maintain professional appearance and presentation at all times in the case of being pulled into a high level meeting spontaneously

* Be constantly aware of competitive landscape, including the appearance of one’s own brand in the retail environment

* Be aware of the responsibilities your counterparts are taking on and understand that not all businesses have the same needs.

*Takes on additional responsibilities as needed, such as replenishment forecasting, new brand launches, open positions, etc.

*Leadership of other TBD special projects to further the business of the brand

* Be ready and performing to the level of Merchandise Manager before being promoted to next level of responsibility.

* May take on domestic and international travel responsibilities depending on needs of the team

Salary Range: 55K-70K *Actual base salary for this role within the above range will be based upon experience, qualifications and/or assigned unit.
