Merchandising Category Manager

Daiso’s Merchandising Category Manager will oversee the assigned day-to-day management of non-food product categories to achieve Daiso’s financial objectives. This category leader will plan and direct all aspects of their assigned merchandising category management processes and policies including but not limited to category portfolio strategy development, Vendor/SKU development, and management, assortment planning and execution, as well as be accountable to managing the P&L. The role of the Category Manager is seen as the leading role in Daiso’s organization to bringing the uniqueness of assortment to our customers and deliver an increase in market share. The ideal candidate must possess an ability to effectively collaborate on the US and International level; have the desire to fall in love with a problem and solve it through strong analytical and problem-solving skills; express an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for leading growth.

Essential Functions of the Position

· Lead through assigned category development and execution of category strategy, including product selection, allocation, approval of marketing materials, and execution of pricing strategies in support of sales and profit

· Demonstrate understanding of the customer perspective through business decisions that drive loyalty in varying customer segments

· Analyze promotional strategy and leverage product/consumer trends and historical data across all categories, to effectively support business strategies

· Achieve sales, share, and profit penetration targets, while appropriately balancing customer loyalty, innovation, and blended margin

· Develop plans to maximize sales and traffic during holidays and other relevant promotional periods

· Responsible for developing a competitive organizational pricing strategy to drive financial performance across all categories

· Draw insight from internal and external resources to generate new ideas and opportunities for Merchandising, as well as other areas of the organization

· Build relationships (internally and externally) and identify new opportunities within the organization and act to effectively implement change to improve results

· Foster a culture of collaboration across the organization to support merchandising decisions, directives, and initiatives. Examples include collaborating with:

o Marketing to maximize eCommerce growth

o Store Operations to effectively execute promotions throughout the year to drive sales.

o Supply Chain to ensure product availability aligns with business needs, exit strategies are planned, and appropriate tradeoffs are managed

· Follow established and defined category management principles- develop processes and audit mechanisms where there are gaps, coaching and training others to develop competencies

· Foster vendor relationships to stay on the leading edge of assortment development and cost leverage opportunities

Job Requirements

  • 5+ Years in a multi-category management role and/or CPG role
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field; MBA or related field preferred
  • Proven ability to analyze large data sets and apply problem-solving capabilities
  • Deep knowledge base in CPG, Direct Sourcing, and/or Product Development
  • 25% travel required (both US and Internationally)
  • The position will be based in Orange County, California
