The Merchant Manager roles exist within 3 marketplace units (MPU’s): Nike Direct (Nike’s own retail business), Strategic Partners and Consumer Merchandising Teams passionate about the balance of market. For each, the role sits on a gender product merchandising team, responsible for translating seasonal strategies for the gender and marketplace unit into the optimal assortment for the respective consumers served. The role partners with Gender Merchandising leaders, cross functional partners and Marketplace Unit team members to plan, build and trade a consumer right assortment!

Who we are looking for

We are looking for consumerists with an affinity for product that enjoys the energy of moving at the pace of retail and the consumer. A successful Merchandising Manager will thrive and contribute to a positive and progressive team dynamic, as well as lead in a way that elevates the total team.

This role is responsible for building consumer right assortments for the Marketplace Units by using historical data, analytics and real-time market feedback to advise the future (coming seasons) while winning today (trading real-time)!

The candidate should possess proven retail competence and analytical abilities, have an understanding of retail environments, preferably in digital, and bring a consumerist perspective to the team and business. They are comfortable overseeing the daily work of individual contributors within a structured coaching framework.

What you will work on

You will be an Integral part of the Women’s Apparel team located in Los Angeles and using key consumer knowledge to influence global direction to serve consumer. You will be the eyes and ears of the competitive landscape through market visits & reporting back to the WHQ team.

You will onboard the seasonal plans including product, pricing, flow and concept or initiatives intent. You will understand related aspects of the business and marketplace in making your plans, including coordinating between genders, brands (Nike & Jordan) and how individual products or collections impact each other.

You will build consumer-centric assortment plans with an understanding of the MPU’s position in the market, blending fact-based and intuitive inputs. You will participate in seasonal reviews, submits and trading; inclusive of assortment building in partnership with the Associate Merchants.

You will balance multiple seasons. Your insights will contribute to future season plans and adoption by supporting Gender Merchandising Leadership upstream (10%). You will manage your areas of assortment planning in depth during the seasonal process (70%) and gather insights from and support optimal trading of in-market seasons (20%)

Who you will work with

You will work with merchants and cross functional teams within the MPU; in particular Planning, and also Brand Marketing. You will work with finance, operations and Insights/analytics teams; relying on business reporting for your area which includes quantitative and qualitative metrics on sales, inventory and consumer behaviors.

You will report to the Gender Marketplace Unit Director or Sr Director of your team.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or combination of relevant education, experience and training
  • 4 years experience in footwear or apparel merchandising, product creation and/or retail in a vertical, multi-brand or digital environment
  • Footwear, Apparel, Equipment or relevant consumer product merchandising experience
  • Understanding of common retail and/or digital profit-based metrics such as sell-through, turn, ASP, UPT and others
  • Ability to contribute to and drive strategy into action
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
