Retail Visual Merchandising Manager HUGO

The HUGO VM Manager will manage all locally driven Visual Merchandising Projects for the UK & Ireland as well as the exection of all Global Visual Projects.

This role will be key in sourcing materials and services from external suppliers and enter negotiations to secure the most competitive prices. The HUGO VM Manager will work closely with the Global Store and Window Design team to ensure that designs and creative for local projects follow brand directives.

The HUGO VM Manager will also directly manage the Area VM Team who will in turn have dual responsibility for BOSS and HUGO brands. The field Team ultimately reports into the BOSS Retail VM Manager though.

This role will be key in building strong working relationships with business partners to ensure the HUGO Brand Visual Guidelines are uphelp at all times.

What you can expect:


  • Management of HUGO Area VM Team.
  • Feedback on team performance to BOSS VM Manager to support with Appraisals.
  • Performance management.
  • Development and Training - building skillsets of Area VM Team to meet the necessary standard for the HUGO Brand.
  • Regular Feedback and Store Visits to assess performance.
  • VM Team Scheduling.
  • Weekly communication via conference call to ensure Area VM Team are up to date on current projects.
  • Proactive approach to Recruitment and Succession planning within the team.
  • Regular StorIQ Feedback.


  • Support the Global VM Team with the execution of the HUGO EMEA Model Store Program for Retail. Work together with interfaces to ensure that the needs of the UK & Ireland are considered.
  • Ensure consistent roll out across all Retail Channels in the UK & Ireland.
  • Campaign creation and monitoring via StorIQ.
  • Plan and execute local HUGO Model Store Program for SIS & Outlet where necessary.
  • Writing/Editing local HUGO Model Store Guidelines for Retail Channel where necessary, including Sale Trading Guidelines.


  • Manage the SAP ordering process of the HUGO Seasonal Window Campaigns, VM Specials and Blow Ups for the UK & Ireland for all Retail Channels.
  • Ensure HUGO Campaigns are installed in line with the Global Standards.
  • Close working relationship with Global Store and Window Design to amend schemes/develop campaigns wherever necessary to suit the local market.
  • Manage StorIQ Campaigns for these projects.


  • Source materials and suppliers/services to support the local VM function.
  • Manage tenders and price negotiations with local suppliers - sign off on final costs for projects together with Head of Visual Merchandising.
  • On call/On site management of installation teams across the UK & Ireland during the installation periods.
  • Follow up on installation standard, ensuring works are completed and meet expectations.


  • Oversee local projects from start to finish. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Instore Installations - i.e SIS
  • Window Specials - i.e Capsule Collecitons
  • Department Store Windows
  • Product Push Campaigns for Instore
  • Store Pop Ups / Brand Moments
  • Marketing & Press Events
  • Showcases
    • Manage design process in conjunction with the Global Store and Window Design Team to ensure that the creative for local projects follow the HUGO Brand Image.
    • Manage sign off process with external Clients and Global Team.
    • Secure additional VM opportunities across the UK & Ireland where required.
    • Manage StorIQ Campaigns for these projects.


    • B&M - Ensuring product supports any local VM Installations.
    • Finance - Hold monthly meetings to ensure budgets are in line with expectations.
    • H&S - Close communication to ensure locally produced goods meet H&S standards
    • PR & Marketing - Support with Design briefs for Marketing and Press Events, Press Day, Sports & Art Sponsorship Projects and local Showcases. Ensuring VM activities are in line with Marketing activities.
    • Retail - Support local Retail needs for special VM installations. Ensure VM communications are issued weekly via the Retail Bulletin.
    • Shop Construction - Work closely with Shop Construction to ensure VM installations are provided for new openings and manage the SSL process.
    • VM - Very close working relationship with HUGO & Wholesale VM Team Leaders, providing support where needed for projects that fall outside of channel
    • Wholesale - Support with locally sourced materials/installations for Wholesale Partners. Support with design and execution of Seasonal Showroom installations and Window Installations for Brand Partners.
    • Global Store & Window Design - Prompt feedback and reporting to Global teams on progress of installations/projects and share best practice and learnings. Influence over campaign direction. Close working relationship on local projects to ensure that Brand Image is portrayed.


    • Meeting attendance and participation - Weekly HUGO Trade Meetings to present and sign off local projects and contribute from VM perspective.
    • Manage own personal development and training.
    • Undertake specific duties as requested by the Head of Visual Merchandising, HUGO Retail Area Managers and HUGO Trading Director.
    • Market Visits with Area Managers/Trading Director and Head of Visual Merchandising.
    • Regular comp shops to asess local Market VM.

    Your profile:

    • Experience in a similar position where the ability to meet & exceed targets has been demonstrated
    • Previous experience in coaching, training & developing team members
    • Brand Knowledge & the ability to represent the brands attributes
    • Commercial mindset
    • Excellent communication skills at all levels
    • Ability to be flexible & adaptable to the need of the business
    • Experience in networking & building relationships
    • Proficient utilization of business systems & latest technology
    • Willingness to constantly learn & develop
    • Passionate & knowledgeable about the brand
    • Fluent in a second language would be an advantage (spoken & written)
