WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

This position is part of the Express Lane Apparel Creation Team that services North America consumers. Express Lane Apparel leverages the best of Nike silhouettes and creates storytelling though graphics, print, and color. This is achieved by obsessing over the craft of the styles from fabric, embellishment, color and construction. As a key member of the team, you will be a highly creative problem solver that strives to develop premium apparel with operational excellence in a speed business model. The Senior Developer will own the style development from initial concept to commercialization and production. They will ensure on time delivery, lead the process through critical dates, and focus on product, sustainability, and profitability goals.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

As our Senior Developer, you will use your technical knowledge related to graphic and graphic applications to provide leadership for complex apparel development projects. While working closely with design to understand the creative vision of the line for each project you will translate design concepts into 3D product. This translation will communicate design concepts to factory partners.

Through collaborating with the design and the project team you will work together to interpret and clarify each design concept, in addition to working with overseas vendors in regard to production and manufacturability.

This role works with design, product merchandising and manufacturing to effectively execute on technical and unique product development goals and deliverables. Senior Developers drive strategy and standards, lead proto reviews with the project team while providing graphic execution recommendations and solutions to issues. You will communicate and provide direction to our factory partners to output accurate development for the retail market.

The Senior Developer will create BOM’s for assigned styles and ensure all appropriate development documentation is maintained including graphic schematics and prototype notes. In addition, the Senior Developer will drive and implement graphic and execution standards across our factory partners. You will track and facilitate prototyping for styles; identify and address key issues and challenges in graphic execution and plan accordingly to deliver proven and tested product. You will monitor and communicate progress and challenges throughout the product testing process to meet product integrity requirements.

The Senior Developer keeps abreast of team goals, new technologies and consumer needs throughout the development process and engages appropriately to ensure projects are completed within corporate guidelines and goals for all facets of product creation. Additionally, the Senior Developer acts as a technical resource to others and lead initiatives through high energy and positive influence.

If this is you, you’ll be helping to develop, create and enable the commercialization of highly crafted graphic driven garments for Nike customers. Your role in development is to bring designs to life from sketch to prototypes for men’s, women’s and kids’ styles. During the week you may be building tech packs including constructing bill of materials, reviewing prototypes, or attending prototype review meetings. A typical day will include communicating over email, phone or video conferencing with factory partners across the globe.

  • Your role will include ownership of apparel and graphic development focused on extending existing silhouette with new graphics, appliques, trims and materials.

  • Manage assigned style count from Brief to Buy Ready while aligning to critical dates, design specification, performance, and profitability goals.

  • Lead communication with factory partners to proactively achieve design requests while balancing production feasibility to ensure alignment of apparel collections across different factories.

  • You will monitor, troubleshoot, and communicate challenges and development progress throughout the product creation process with Triad partners.

  • You will become an expert at graphic and style design achievability on different fabrics and different factories to be able to advise triad partners on feasibility at design reviews and proto review meetings.

  • Help lead seasonal prototype review meetings, communicate prototype comments with a strong POV on execution, improvement ideas and cost while bringing ideas to the table with your Triad partners.

  • Learn to guide and educate Design and Product Management partners on achievable graphic techniques from a margin and profitability perspective, as well as a factory capability standpoint.

  • Help manage silhouette redevelopment across factories and process apparel patterns from factory to design partners in pattern systems.

  • You will work closely with development and triad team to adapt new 3D digital product creation process

  • You will create and revise documentation for assigned product, ensuring all documentation is maintained in systems including apparel and graphic specs, samples status and prototype notes

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

You will collaborate closely with the Product, Design, Material, Sourcing and PCC teams, developing seasonal product to commercialization. You will also partner with various functions within the Nike org to bring design concepts to life.

Your triad partners may be located at Nike WHQ, New York City or Los Angles. Your position will also work with PCC/Sourcing and Manufacturing partners around the world.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING?

  • 5 years' experience in product creation (merchandising, product development, operations, production or R&D). Preferably experience in graphics/embellishments.

  • Bachelor's degree in apparel design, product development, textiles, graphic design, merchandising or relevant combination of education, training, and experience

  • Experience using Adobe Illustrator, Clo, Optitex and/or Lotta Browzwear highly desired

  • Strong understanding of apparel drawings, construction, materials, costing and quality

  • Strong development and organization skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skill in problem solving and results orientation

  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills; will manage multiple projects over multiple seasons

  • Strong analytical, decision making and influencing skills; must be a self-starter

  • Ability to work remotely via video conferencing systems

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international)

  • Experience acting as a technical resource and mentor to others while leading initiatives and project teams is strongly preferred.
