Our parent group, WHSmith has recently launched a new Sustainability Strategy - Our Journey to a Better Business - across the three themes of Planet, People and Communities. We are looking for someone based in Las Vegas to work with our Sustainability Team in the UK and help develop and deliver this agenda in a format which is relevant for the US Market.

Job Summary: The Senior Buyer for our food and beverage categories. The Senior Buyer is responsible for ensuring the customer is at the heart of our decision making, using data and insights to create a vision and strategy to bring products to life in store.

  • Develop and lead a high performing team
  • Complete P&L ownership of the budget category with focus on net profitability. Budgets for sales/ margin, costs, capex, and supplier income
  • Understand total business strategy and the categories’ role, owning the category planning process
  • Review longer trading outlook mitigation plans to hand and engage with wider business on trends
  • Manage own category pricing including working with pricing and promotion manager on development of pricing elasticity trials
  • Full ownership for department supplier income delivery and responsibility for reporting performance across business.
  • Have a long-term supplier strategy in place covering annual deals, payment terms, cost prices, marketing spend & conduct regular grow/hold/decline reviews
  • Negotiate with and manage the supplier base, including a clear supplier strategy and the ongoing maintenance/improvement of terms

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of buying experience, preferred in consumer-packaged goods categories
  • Understanding of retail math and ability to interpret financial analysis and measure impact
  • 2-3 years of experience in leading and developing a team
  • Experience in setting category strategies and measuring against targets set by the wider business
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office (WORD, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
