POSITION SUMMARY

Senior fashion designers work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment in which they must be aware of emerging trends. As senior designers, they also must communicate observations on trends to the fashion designers working beneath them, as the senior designer holds a managerial position as well.

Hand-sketching of designs and computer aided drafting (CAD) are required to communicate their vision to other designers and create a blueprint of the product to be created. A senior fashion designer must be able to analyze the work of designers they oversee, modifying blueprints to produce an end product. Strong communication skills are essential in this position, as it will often to be necessary to communicate the adjustments necessary to bring designs to life in a timely, cost-efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

Researching current fashion trends and determining what consumers will like
Developing mood board for collections
Collaborating with the design team to develop ideas for new products based on researched data
Designing sketches for new products with a design team
Developing color palettes for collections
Testing and deciding on fabrics, colors, patterns and textures for each design
Overseeing the production of designs from sketches, sampling, fitting until production of final output.
Maintaining relationships with vendors, suppliers and models
Create new designs in line with current trends and the target audience.
Evaluate prototypes and improve design.
Presenting to management the material, fabrics, color trend and sketches each season.
Attend regular design and product development meetings.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in design, fine arts, fashion design or related field.
Relevant work experience in fashion design
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator.
Ability to do sketches by hand and through the use of computer-aided fashion design applications and digital visualization tools
Knowledge of fashion design principles and excellent design and conceptual skills.
Excellent sense of style
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to meet multiple deadlines.
In-depth knowledge of garment technology.
Strong understanding of pattern making, fitting and draping.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong time-management skills; Excellent attention to detail

Work Location and Schedule

This job will require that you work form our office in Manhattan, NY, weekdays during normal business hours.
