Job Description: Corporate

Title: Senior Designer - Sweaters

Reports to: Design Director

Overview: Manage seasonal product design execution to achieve overall creative and business objectives.


  • Coordinate and unify creative execution of product.
  • Manage creative and technical development of product within merchandise assortment strategy.
  • Research seasonal trends, themes, color, raw materials and styling.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Production and Technical Design to achieve product execution and maintain design integrity.

  • Conduct fittings.
  • Create design cards for first protos, including measurements and construction details.
  • Develop and counter source yarn/fabric and trim with production and suppliers.
  • Order, track, and manage all European yarns
  • Approval of lab dips and fabric/yarn submits.
  • Overseas travel for trade exhibitions, design research, and to supervise product development.


  • Min 8-10 years Design experience

  • Technical knowledge of garment construction, textiles and pattern/fit.
  • Experience with yarn/fabric construction and color development
  • Understanding of how to engineer costing at initial product development stage

  • Knowledge of seasonal silhouettes and color trends

  • Strong Creativity/ illustration/presentation skills
  • Understanding of J. Crew Factory and positioning in Apparel Market- ability to implement into design value without compromising quality and integrity of the brand.
  • Proven ability to research and apply market/fashion trend information
  • Collaborates and cooperates well with Merchants, Cross functional partners in Sourcing and Design team
  • Detail oriented with excellent follow through and precision
  • Strong organizational, communication and written skills

  • Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Previous experience managing a Design team and possesses ability to manage, coach and develop others
