The Role

Working closely with the Head of Design, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the design direction and development of the range, from conception to delivery, whilst mentoring the team during this process.This position is the interface between the Design Team and Head of Design and is integral to the development and implementation of the brand objectives and brand strategy for apparel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivery of the monthly design, creative and product direction to provide insight and direction to the strategic vision of collections, enabling store teams to service our customer in an authoritative, informative and intelligent way
  • Build and maintain the range boards, line sheets and thumbnail boards aligned to each collection for the nominated categories
  • Develop and source new fabrications and trims in alignment with seasonal trends and ensuring best practice in ethical and sustainable sourcing and selection
  • Communicate and liaise with factories, suppliers and agents in order to develop and produce the apparel collection to the quality expectations of the brand and customer
  • Manage the comments of all lab dips, strike off and trims with Design Assistant, Junior Designer and Fabric Technician for nominated categories
  • Drive fit direction with the QA Technician to ensure consistent fit and high-quality standards of workmanship
  • Be available to attend fit sessions of The Junior Designer to ensure consistent fit and high-quality standards of workmanship. Mentor Junior Designer in best practice in fittings, fit sessions and communication to factories
  • Communicate any changes of styling to the Merchandiser, Buying and Production Manager and Head of Design following fittings for nominated categories to ensure they are aware of design changes to mitigate and design concerns, potential delays and/or price variations.
  • Present monthly collections to the Visual Merchandising Team where required
  • Achieve sales budgets, intake margins, markdowns, and R.O.S for nominated categories
  • Assess weekly sales reports to determine best sellers, sell throughs and problem styles/colours
  • Undertake overseas buying and sourcing trips where necessary, and factory / supplier visits as planned
  • Complete regular visits to stores with Accessory Design Team to obtain first hand product feedback from customers and staff.

Profile

The ideal candidate has...

  • Exceptional technical skills, fabric and/or yarn sourcing and knowledge
  • 10+ years' experience in a womenswear design role
  • Diploma or degree qualification in Fashion Design
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, having had the experience in presenting to an Executive Team
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Ability to work in a potentially rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, plan work programs and meet deadlines
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
