Who you’ll work with

Design Foundations is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for creating the digital foundations that power Nike’s personalized consumer-anywhere experiences at scale. Within Design Foundations sits the Nike Podium Design System, a team that leads the creation, advocacy and adoption of Nike’s Design System — developing and maintaining the interface standards needed to create scalable, on-brand and cohesive cross-platform experiences. As a key member of this team, you’ll report into the Sr. Design Director of Design Foundations within Nike Digital Product Design.

What your responsibilities will be
  • Evangelizing and advocating for the adoption of the design system within Nike’s UX community
  • Continuously evolving and reimagining our design language in a hands-on capacity
  • Designing incredibly polished work that represents the Nike brand and product experience through visual comps, wireframes, flows, prototypes and presentations
  • Shaping design ecosystems and creating traction around a design direction
  • Being responsible for the quality and design output for your projects/initiatives across orgs, and heavily influencing the overall quality
  • Inspiring new ways of thinking and exploring the unknown using fresh and unique approaches to design problems
  • Using facilitative leadership skills to drive the best outcomes for highly visible, cross-functional teams, leading projects or initiatives for your product area, across multiple areas, and Digital Product Design
  • Working with cross-functional teams (product designers, developers, product managers, operations, writers, researchers) to drive design vision and strategy that meets the needs of users
  • Ensuring key partnerships across businesses and within brand, accessibility, globalization are actively being cultivated and teams are collaborating
  • Running design workshops and helping to guide, improve, and implement design and feedback practices
  • Co-creating governance models, contribution models, and ways for teams to feed back the work they are doing into the design system
  • Building education programs and demos that help the designer and developer community use the design systems in productive and expressive ways
  • Guiding your teams to solve the toughest problems of a product
  • Influencing team culture by always being inclusive, welcoming and candid-identifying, leading and delivering initiatives that improve the culture across the org
  • Being an active mentor for other designers on the team, helping to design reviews and quarterly planning
What you bring to Nike
  • A bachelor’s degree or any combination of education, training and experience in design, design systems, organizational design, product design, visual communications, user experience design, design research, content design, service design, brand, or a related field
  • 10+ years of proven experience with end-to-end digital product design with proven experience in visual and UX
  • Familiar with the end-to-end process of how design systems are run in corporations
  • Proficiency in creating sophisticated, multi-platform design systems and guidelines for digital ecosystems
  • Well experienced in establishing design language and design systems from the ground-up
  • A visionary and conceptual problem solver in UI standards and interaction patterns that look and feel on brand
  • Deep experience with driving and applying human-centered design processes while working with cross functional teams
  • The ability to craft emotionally compelling designs that meet the needs of real users within the design systems community
  • Expert in bringing together all aspects of design, product, experimentation, brand, research, data science, business and strategy
  • Ability to simplify the complex by delivering high-quality, end-to-end design solutions that are intuitive and easy to use
  • Demonstrated user-centric design approach and insights-based design process
  • Refined design sensibility and impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong collaborator with product designers, product managers, engineers, writers, researchers and brand creatives
  • Capable of managing ambiguity, thoughtful about taking risks
  • Ability to drive collaboration and communication within a complex groups across the organization, from individual contributors to executive leaders
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills, with the ability to guide cross functional teams through design thinking workshops and activities
  • A strong design process thinker — contributes new processes or enhancements to cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills — you can craft and deliver compelling stories that influence decision makers
  • Experience launching software at scale in a fast-paced product organization
  • Proficient in product design and development tools such as Figma, Principal, Adobe CC, Github, and Jira
  • Experience coding and/or collaborating with developers who build in front end languages such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, and TypeScript
  • Experience with managing multiple system layers with design tokens and themes a plus
  • Cross-platform design experiences (Web, Android, iOS, Wearables)
  • Experience measuring and tracking the performance, health, and quality of the design system - creating dashboards, interviewing, surveying, etc. (mix of qual/quant methods)
  • Passion for the Nike brand, the world of sport, and thought leadership in design that elevates the work
  • A fascination with innovation and technology and a solid understanding of digital tools and trends
