Job description

POSITION TITLE: Senior Technical Designer

POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for the initiation of technical packages to vendors from prototypes through production. Responsible for ensuring timeliness, and consistency of the fit, specification, quality and construction of the product conform to standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Work with vendors, suppliers and Buyers to develop the fit and specification for the garment. Conducts fit sessions on live models, review overall fit, and confirm all details of the garment. Translate the design concept into specification packages which detail garment measurements, design features and construction requirements to communicate to the vendor.

Establish specifications and construction requirements for each garment type as per GUESS standards. Review and revise spec sheets to confirm their accuracy. Provide technical direction, internally and externally, on corrective actions needed to bring samples to brand fit standards. Utilize written comments, sketches, photos or pattern making as needed to communicate.

Organize workflow within the department based on delivery and production timeline. Evaluate samples for fit, measurement, pattern shaping, and functionality to insure fit and proper styling. Issue grading guidelines to vendors after fit approval. Utilize software, digital photos, and technical sketches as a tool of communicating to global vendor partners.

Communicate fit revisions and comments to vendors in a technical package format. Approve fit and construction for each prototype. Develop and use standard blocks for each product category. Lead fit session on live model or mannequin and take initiative of specific product (s). Anticipate and resolve any pre-production and/or production problems while in the fit process. Partner with vendors in the resolution of problems as necessary.

Maintain a garment fit library organized by supplier and category. Issue standard grade rules in preparation for bulk production.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 4-6 Years
