Soft-goods Specialist/Textile Designer

Ecovative is seeking a Soft-goods Specialist/Textile Designer to lead our in-house team with design, prototyping, and experimentation of Forager Hides and Foams /

AirMycelium™. This position will work closely with our Business Development team and Marketing team to process mycelium material, create soft-good prototypes, provide textile industry expertise, and conduct experiments ranging from material performance testing to biological dyes. Ideal candidates will have experience with biobased materials, passion for the natural sciences, and an expertise in soft-good fabrication.

Soft-goods Specialist/Textile Designer Will:

  • Process AirMycelium™ into swatches for inquiring business and fulfilling custom requests for joint development.
  • Internally support our team with projects and material needed for INSTRON testing, embossing, etc.
  • Collaborate effectively with external vendors, consultants, and marketing collaborators.
  • Create custom prototypes using Forager Foams and Leather for proof of concept and exhibition displays in galleries and conferences.
  • Assist in the operation of the Forager Fashion Arts and Design (FFAD) program.
  • Experiment with the AirMycelium™ material to learn of strengths and weaknesses.
  • Utilize textile techniques, industry knowledge, and processes to apply to

AirMycelium™ and provide guidance to Ecovative.

  • Work with closely with Business Development team and Marketing on the

Forager division, designs, and prototyping.

  • Provide creative oversight, execution and reporting on a variety of projects, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain documentation and develop reports concerning new or ongoing prototype and/or program effectiveness; monitor effectiveness of assigned projects; recommend and implement modifications as appropriate.
  • Design Ecovative company apparel for internal gifts and online webstore.
  • Co-owner of the prototyping lab and assisting with its continued build-out.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strength in fabrication processes with machine sewing, die cutting, presses, embossing, printing, leather or textile finishing, natural dyeing, tooling and molding, lamination, milling, apparel/footwear/accessories manufacturing.
  • Proficiency using prototyping equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, notably Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Proficient in photography ranging from documenting work to fashion photoshoots.
  • Experience working in a lab growing biological materials such as bacteria, algae, yeast, and mycelium.
  • Driven to grow and pick up new skills as needed.
  • Demonstrates company values above and beyond daily tasks and responsibilities, leads by example.
  • Demonstrates a natural eye for design with strong creative and cultural instincts.
  • Comfortable and confident working in groups or independently.
  • Gives and receives constructive feedback.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.

Education:

  • Industrial Design, Textile Design or Fashion Design Degree
