Position Summary:

Our Sr Designer for the active categories will lead the creative vision and the design process for multiple brands that include both men’s, women’s and youth product. The Sr Designer will move the business forward by being a champion for the broader vision of design and innovation. Focus will be on developing a deep understanding of the consumer and their needs. This role will allow you to concentrate your design talents on a broad range of consumers, facilitating the creation of product that is flexible and addresses diverse needs. It takes great intelligence and talent to successfully design items that are simple in nature, yet span across a multitude of uses, while offering the end consumer appropriate fabrications, details, color, fit, trend, price points and purpose. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pro-active role in all phases of the design process: establishment of brand identity in collaboration with Merchandising, research, line plan creation, creation of original apparel designs, illustrating, and color/fabric/trim/fit direction.
  • Create and present design concepts and product presentation materials that effectively communicate the brand vision and seasonal direction of the line.
  • Create computer-generated artwork that accurately reflects apparel design direction and details.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and other cross-functional team members to determine and gain agreement on direction and execution throughout the product creation process; establish your understanding of the product and process to facilitate buy in from the team and management.
  • Provide creative design solutions in an evolving environment and collaborate with cross-functional team members on execution.
  • Interpret a merchandising product brief; design into specific price points for our active apparel categories, while ensuring that the designs are functional, visually compelling, and meet target price points.
  • Translate market trends to create original active apparel designs. Interpret trends to skillfully update existing product offerings.
  • Gather and present color, fabric, and product trend information relevant to specific product categories.
  • Ensure that the product is consistent with business strategy and meets the functional needs of the end-user.
  • Drive value-engineering throughout the design process.
  • Partner with Technical Designers to ensure the technical specification packages are accurate and complete for vendor use.
  • Work within the constraints of the product creation calendar and meet all timelines.
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor assigned apparel design team members to work towards elevated visual designs while aligning with stated brand needs.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of assigned design team members: ensure the designers are proactively meeting project deadlines, adhering to calendar, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and generating creative design output.
  • Illustrate in the Adobe Suite. Create multiple views with a high level of detail for the use in speck packs.

Requirements for Position:

  • Degree in Apparel Design or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years proven experience designing and directing the creative vision for a sport or activewear apparel product line.
  • Possess an expert knowledge of technical fabrications, design, and fit for performance apparel.
  • Highly collaborative nature with the ability to openly share and learn from others.
  • Value being a member of a team – ability to work cooperatively and enthusiastically on shared goals.
  • Excitement for sharing ideas and concepts. Value and be open to receiving feedback from teammates and management.
  • Ability to pivot and go in new directions.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Previous managing / mentoring experience a plus.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced design skills and thorough understanding of the product creation process.
  • Communication in verbal and written form to effectively and clearly articulate goals and objectives.
  • Ability to seek information proactively and work cooperatively in a diverse group.
  • Enthusiasm in leading and influencing others and champion projects using demonstrated creativity and ingenuity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office suite.
  • Advanced skill in the full Adobe Creative suite including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photo Shop.
  • Potential travel up to 15% of time.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
