Position Overview:

The Technical Design Assistant will support the Senior Technical Designer on the Adrianna Papell Sportswear & Daytime Dress Technical Team to ensure that daily assignments and tasks are followed through to completion and all deadlines are met. The ideal candidate is eager to learn technical standards or specifications relating to women apparel and to manage work priorities with our vendors in order to complete technical requirements throughout the product development lifecycle. Responsibilities include (i) organizing samples; (ii) preparing fit sessions and (iii) supporting technical design work. The position requires initiative to collaborate with other work teams and build effective working relationships.


  • Assists with fittings and prepare fit comments, including measuring samples, sketching (flat technical sketches with detail) and analyzing garment construction.
  • Tracks and ships samples; receives and logs all incoming/outgoing samples, etc.
  • Measures all fit samples through all production stages against required specifications and analyzes any discrepancies or inconsistencies with the Technical Designer.
  • Assists, when needed, the Technical Designer with the resolution of any such fit sample discrepancies and/or problems.
  • Maintain and update all technical files, Tech Packs and status charts in Excel.
  • Communicate daily via email with overseas factories and vendors regarding fit, specifications, grading issues and garment construction via fit comments.
  • Attention to detail, organization and excellent computer skills required.


  • Bachelor, Associate, or Technical Degree in Patternmaking or/and Technical Design.
  • 0-2 years technical design or pattern-making work experience..
  • Knowledge of measuring and flat sketching, a plus.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, design and production process.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Strong Communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Must be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills and technical knowledge of productivity tools; including Blue Cherry (or other PLM software), Excel and Adobe Illustrator.
