TECHNICAL DESIGNER
Our client, an established women’s fashion company with a portfolio of brands in the bottoms and tops category, wovens, knits, and denim, is seeking an experienced Technical Designer. This NYC-based role has a salary range of 100-110k. Responsibilities:
Create accurate initial and production specs that meet brand requirements
Maintain and revise released fit comments and graded spec
Conduct fit sessions, proactively identify and communicate fit issues, and provide solutions while reflecting design intent and brand requirements
Regularly review block specs, grade rules, and figure types to ensure size range meets company objectives
Benchmark fit and against other key fashion companies to ensure best-in-class fit and construction
Check construction and quality of product to ensure sample has proper execution for garment category and fabrication
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure bulk production
Supervise track fit samples and make sure WIPS chart update
Work with sample room or contractors on any issues with the construction
Follow and supervise the development and production cycle/timelines to ensure all technical deadlines are achieved
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrate excellent proficiency in developing and maintaining spec sheets, measurement charts, sizing algorithms, and grading
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (minimum of 10+ years) in women’s and men’s technical design/patternmaking
Strong knowledge of patternmaking, draping, garment construction, grading, and factory production
Basic knowledge of fabric and yarn construction finishes and techniques
Basic knowledge of garment and fabric testing
Experience with both knit and woven fabrics – top and bottom product categories.
Strong leadership experience and management skills, working with a wider multinational design team spread out over multiple time zones
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Illustrator
PLM experience such as Centric PM and Flex PLM are a plus
Excellent time-management and prioritization skills while working on multiple projects simultaneously
