Technical Designer
The Technical Designer’s focus is to assist in style development and coordinate the go-to market and pre-production process of primarily apparel and secondarily headwear by working closely with the Senior Director of Product and Merchandising to meet department goals and project deadlines, ensuring accuracy of art files from conception to final product.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with design team in tech pack development needed for proto, salesman and top of production samples of apparel and headwear
- Create and maintain tech pack files in PLM from proto development to TOP samples
- Create and maintain point of measurement specs and build of materials
- Create and maintain all apparel grade rules and block library specs
- Review digital patterns from suppliers for corrections on development samples
- Assist with Design team in fittings and proto review sessions
- Create and track proto samples while coordinating with the sourcing department
- Communicate clear design point of view to factories regarding spec, fit and quality across development process through top of production samples
- Proficient understanding of how to express technical design needs to overseas factories
- Proficient understanding of stitches, seams and all garment construction techniques
- Measure samples and document all measurements and styling/construction differences based off tech packs and designer notes
- Assist in scheduling and conducting fit sessions with design team
- Leverage point of measurement standards to provide a consistent product and a positively influenced customer loyalty
- Assist Director/Manager and Sourcing as needed
- Work closely with design team to meet calendar deadlines and track programs and product launches
- Create internal style numbers and naming conventions.
- Facilitate interdepartmental communication between Design, Art, and Sourcing
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and logos.
- Other duties as assigned
- High level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) on a Mac platform
- Experienced knowledge of fabrics and construction
- Experience with communicating and working closely with overseas suppliers
- Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to balance multiple projects while meeting established deadlines
- Communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Strong follow-up, ownership, and accountability
- Positive attitude and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in pattern making is a plus
- Experience with PLM is a plus
Education and Experience
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of Product Design experience or equivalent combination or education and experience
- Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design, or Communications Arts; Relevant job experience in lieu of degree will be considered
- Illustrator (AI) experience required
Travel Requirement
- 20% to 25%; domestic and/or global
