What You’ll Do:

  • Research and study fashion trends, anticipating designs that will appeal to the Frankly’s plus-size consumer
  • Collaborate with other designers on moodboards and conceptual sketches for upcoming products and collections; provide feedback on styles that will or will not translate to plus size effectively
  • Develop and maintain plus size garment blocks that ensure consistency of fit for the product for each brand/category
  • Simplify new development aligning styles to standard plus size blocks
  • Collaborate with fashion designer and technical intimates designer to develop and innovate new concepts for shape and fit, including alterations to better support larger bust
  • Conduct scrappy early prototyping to test functionality, with a focus on internal support structure
  • Create thorough tech packs with sketches, complete construction details, and key measurements
  • Work closely with design and product development to ensure that designs are translated correctly, including fabric and trim selections
  • Manage team in fit sessions by fitting samples on live models, recording comments and communicating with team and partners, including for graded samples
  • Take and track notes to ensure final fit, quality and construction meets standards; provide clear fit appraisal for all new shape developments including grading & wear trials and assist in communication with vendors on standards
  • Follow grade rules, cross-check pattern, production specs, and BOM before release to marking/grading
  • Evaluate customer feedback and partner with factories to continue innovating on our products
  • Offer input to Executive Team on merchandising decisions including colorway selection, print selection, photo shoot planning, and beyond
  • Provide analysis for failed styles, where applicable

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in fashion based course/pattern making
  • 5+ years experience in a technical design and/or pattern making capacity within the apparel industry, with a focus on full-figured, busty, and/or plus size fashion
  • Experience working with functional fashion or athleisure a plus
  • Bra and Underwear experience, including understanding of bra construction, a plus
  • Knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, silhouettes, colorways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim; knits and stretch wovens experience a plus
  • A passion for Frankly and its mission
  • Creative problem solving with a willingness to think outside the box; balance creativity with technical capability
  • Meticulous about product quality; unafraid to professionally voice your opinion to make our products the absolute best they can be
  • Extreme attention to detail and accuracy, as well as ability to prioritize and make quick decisions
  • Good communicator with excellent project management and organization skills
  • Experience working with overseas factories
  • Computer grading experience a plus
  • Photoshoot planning and basic merchandising skills a plus

The Nitty Gritty:

  • Project Duration: 6 months (estimated 100 hours), with potential to renew for future project(s)
  • Pay: $50/hr
  • Location: Chicago, IL (Virtual)
