BalletCNJ is looking for an experienced Wardrobe Seamstress with an eye for detail. You will conduct fittings, repairs, and alterations of costumes. Our ideal candidate has the experience and skills to operate sewing machine, do hand sewing, and produce well-made products. You also need customer service skills to work with students during fittings, which will take place during evening hours on weekdays or morning to early afternoon on Saturdays. It is essential that all costumes alterations and repairs are of high quality and completed on time.

Dance and ballet costumes experience is not necessary, but a plus! Ability to contruct garments and willingness to learn, if necessary, is a huge plus.

Seamstress will have access to the wardrobe in the mornings and afternoons to perform their duties during weekdays, with an option to work remotely for any projects that apply upon approval.

We present 2 live dance performances per year, winter and spring. Opportunity for on-going employment is available.


  • Responsible for all aspects of the planning, supervision, and maintenance of all costumes in the show for performances ensuring the Designer’s original specification and look of the production is maintained.
  • Coordinate the care, management and organization of costumes before, during and after dress rehearsal and performance periods.
  • Work collaboratively and be a great team member with other staff, particularly the directors and teachers, to ensure the smooth running of the show.
  • Supervise and instruct wardrobe volunteers.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of costumes during and after the performance period including, but not limited to: repairs, laundry, and dry cleaning.
  • Supervise any alterations necessary during the performance period.
  • Supervise the costume strike including, but not limited to: laundry, dry cleaning, rental returns, restocking.
  • Ensure that work materials and all costumes are kept in a tidy and secured manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Director.


  • Experience operating sewing machine and serger machines.
  • Excellent sewing skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to work with children ranging from 3 years of age to 18.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong team player capable of supporting team members in solving problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $15.00 per hour
