Job description

As a design intern you will be working closely with the womenswear designers, gaining a strong insight into all categories, including woven, jersey and knit.

You will see the full design process from the initial research stage to production.

This is an invaluable opportunity to gain experience within a small design team and will exceed to help you in gaining a graduate role after university.

Main Duties:

PLM:

  • Assist the team to create line sheets with shells of each style.
  • Keep the sketch’s up to date.
  • Create colour palettes at the start of each season.

Admin:

  • General office admin, e.g. keeping the department tidy and organized, filing fabrics into relevant boxes, making files for the designers when necessary, scanning in fabric and recycling fabric.
  • Keeping the share point, adobe cloud and adobe libraries organised.
  • Always ensuring that, that the overview files are up to date and that all departments have the most recent version (e.g. replacing the sheets on the physical boards and in the adobe file.
  • Making physical colour palettes with the pantone references for each department.
  • Steaming of show proto samples that arrive and photos of add in samples to assist the Head of Design Studio.

DHL/ Post:

  • Collecting the post deliveries from 1st floor twice daily with the other interns. Bring post up to 2nd floor and distribute accordingly.
  • Packing up and sending out any outgoing post for the designers.
  • Track parcels for the designers and contact DHL when needed.

RESEARCH:
  • General research for the season, as well as more detailed research into a specific area such as trims/ specific garment category/ embellishment etc (this will be dependent on the designer’s needs).
  • Keeping up to date with upcoming exhibitions/ sources of inspiration and feeding back to the designers by logging imagery on shared miro board.

ARTWORKS:

  • Creating quick initial artwork mock ups to review with the designers, based on their specific requirements.
  • Making CADs of printed/embroidered/ embellished styles and graphic artworks (Amending scale/colour where appropriate).

SHOWING:

  • Hanging and steaming samples as they arrive.
  • Helping if any samples need amending in house e.g. unpicking/ tacking etc.
  • Adding swing tickets to garments so they have all relevant information.
  • Helping the designers dress the model and shoot looks ahead of show.
  • Helping the designers to keep the merchandised rails orgainsed
  • General assistance in the run up to the show.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  • Industry Technical knowledge of woven design and production.
  • How to CAD and create tech packs with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • How to use the database system PLM.
  • How to style and prepare for seasonal showings

How to create artworks / embroideries.

Profile

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • We are looking for someone who would be able to start from the 20th June for a min of 3 months.
  • We are aware that applicants may not have much previous industry experience, but we do require applicants to have experience in the below at university.
  • A good level of knowledge and understanding of Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Highly organised and confident to take responsibility of tasks given and to see them completed to a high standard.

INFO:

  • It would be Monday to Friday 10am-6pm but we are open to flexibility as we know some students have part time jobs.
  • The internship would be unpaid but we cover £5 a day for lunch and daily travel expenses within London zones.
