JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT DESIGNER

LOCATION: New York, NY, in-person

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Assist Designer is responsible for the design and development of loungewear, ready to wear, loungewear/ sleepwear styles, consistent with the company’s vision and brand strategy. The goal is to create design collections from concept through product, consistent with brand image and target customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design Research and Concept Launch

· Assists in concept process; creates seasonal story boards to communicate overall concept to Chief Creative Officer

· Research market trends, color and raw materials

· Develop product based on line plan and seasonal concept

Design Development and Line Status

· Operate within company product development calendar to meet designated goals and deadlines.

· Organize presentation boards and assist in the preparation of meetings

· Be involved in every step of the development process

· Responsible for initial technical packages for overseas proto development as well as purchasing specs

TP’s for bulk production

· Attend fit sessions and record changes

· Execute CADs for linelist and meet product development calendar deadlines

· Manage approval of lab dips and strike offs for development

· Maintain seasonal line sheets and partner with cross-functional team members to communicate updates

· Communicate with PD and Sales/Merchandising teams to ensure all product needs are met

· Organize and maintain seasonal design deck, color binders and print flow

· Additional responsibilities as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum of 1+ years of women’s ready to wear industry experience

· BFA, BS in Fashion Design or equivalent

· BFA, BS in Fashion Design or equivalent

· Strong knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop Program; Kaledo is a plus

· Basic computer skills and knowledge in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint

· Excellent hand sketching /digital sketching and illustration ability

· Technical knowledge of garment construction and fit

· Ability to communicate clearly using fabric/merchandising/garment construction terminology and skills both written and verbal

· Great eye for color; understands possibilities of fabric and construction; looks for new and innovative ways to use color, fabric, and details in design

· Organized and detailed orientated

· Must be able to multi-task, prioritize work on a continual basis, able to lead and work independently.
