The Designer will develop and execute seasonal lines/silhouettes that are in alignment with market trends and the Corporate Vision. Ensure that all steps in the design calendar are met timely and all information is communicated properly for each style.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and sketch silhouettes for each season. Create/visualize an idea, sketch rough and/or detailed drawings by hand or using computer-aided design (CAD) of apparel. Write specifications such as color schemes, construction, material types, and accessory requirements. Liaise closely with sales, buying and production teams on an ongoing basis to ensure the item suits the customer, market and price points. Develop a pattern that is cut and sewn into sample garments and supervise the making up of the design, including fitting, detailing and adaptations.
  • Participate in the design process and make seasonal fabric selections with approval of the Design Director. Source, select and buy fabrics, trims, fastenings and embellishments. Work with Product Development and Tech Design for technical packages. Develop labels and trim for each season and attend all fittings while meeting all calendar deadlines.
  • Identify target markets for designs, looking at factors such as age, gender, and socioeconomic status. Shop the market for fresh new ideas, in order to analyze or predict trends in fabrics, colors and shapes, and pass on ideas/information to Design Director. Research development ideas through regular meetings with Guess, Inc. local and overseas vendors.
  • Oversee prototype production. Identify timely resolution of issues in collaboration with Production, Technical Design, Buying and other relevant sources when they arise.

Base salary will be determined on various factors, including but not limited to, market data, internal equity, relevant background, and experience for the specified role. GUESS?
