Senior Fashion Designer
Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will report to the Director of Design and demonstrate expertise and knowledge in Junior apparel design concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish Design departmental goals. Candidate will have proven success in an Apparel Design environment. Individual will partner closely with Technical Design, Product Development, Production, Sales and other departments.
Design collection from concept to completion.
Responsible for product design process to include market research, conceptual presentations, design and guidance through fabric, print, spec and fit processes
Shop domestic and international market bringing in new ideas through competitive shopping and vintage research
Work closely with Design Director for sketch review; discuss production, fabric and other daily issues
Research fabrics and trims, partner with Fabric R&D and Production
Research key silhouettes and trends
Work with both an in-house sample room and overseas design development
Design collection pieces that reflect the trends and the aesthetic of the collection based on Directors’ vision
Prepare spec packages for Product Development and Technical teams including construction details, front and back view sketches, fabrications, trim sheets and critical measurements
Illustrate collection using CAD and Flat sketching in Adobe programs.
Prepare presentation boards, keep updated throughout the season
Assist in coloring and pass color to Product Development team upon line Head Designer/Design Director’s approval
Pass specs to Product Development and Technical teams in-line with Corporate calendar
Review samples and provide fit comments to Product Development and Technical teams with Head Designer /Design Director
Review qualities, construction and/or trims to fit into necessary price points, work closely with Head Designer
Work with R&D, Product Development, and Production to improve quality
Review merchandise plans and maintain calendar timing
Liaising directly with sales team to Ensures that product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy
Present collection to sales, merchandising, production and other team members for seasonal approval
Follow up color lab dips for final approval
Update boards with current colors, styles and fabrications
Communicate open issues with directors and work closely to resolve them
Communicate updates and changes to all business partners (Merchants, Production, Tech, Licensee)
Qualifications:
8 plus recent years' design room experience
Proficient in Excel and Adobe Suite
Experience across all categories, tops/dresses/outerwear/bottoms
Proven flat and computer sketching skills
Working knowledge of all fabrications, product construction, and fit model & standard
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Detail/Goal-oriented, prioritized, and organized individual
Ability to creatively mix fabrics and trims
Ability to source and develop with China suppliers
Ability to adapt to pricing structure to service customer
Ability to work in a fast pace environment
Preferred:
Working knowledge using Web PDM or PLM
