Position Summary: Perform all the duties of hairstylist for university productions and programs; create and maintain wigs and hairpieces for these productions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in breakdown and interpretation of designer’s sketches, and director’s instructions
- Directly supervise daily work of students in the Wig Shop
- Provide training and related information for workers
- Supervise the use of wireless microphones in the hair for productions
- Clean, repair, style, and inventory all wig units during and after productions
- Staff and supervise hairstyling for all performance related events and technical rehearsals
- Collaborate with directors regarding hairstyles during the production process
- Work in conjunction with the manager for any rental requests
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Skill in the creation of wigs and hairpieces, including ventilating hair, making custom hairpieces, and cutting and styling of units
- Skill in period and modern hairstyling
- Organizational skills
- High school required
- Previous professional experience either in salon or performing arts very helpful
